Black History Month: Inspirations
This Black History Month, Andrea is remembering those who inspire her! From famous Black icons, to BIPOC artists and business owners within the design community, Andrea has made a list of a few special people to spotlight this February. Here are Andrea’s shout-outs:
Oprah Winfrey. “If i could have a show on Oprah network…!” Andrea dreams. Oprah puts her heart into everything she does, and so does Andrea. However, she notes that there are no design shows on the Oprah network…perhaps a collaboration is in order?
Rihanna. Rihanna is a business woman, a family woman, and an artist. She never stops cultivating her creativity, finding new styles and new mediums to express herself at each new turn in life. Likewise, Andrea wants to grow and evolve as a designer as well as a person.
Nicole Gibbons. Gibbons is the founder and brain behind Clare Paint, a colorful company grounded in streamlining paint shopping. An interior designer, Gibbons is well-versed in the process of paint picking and usage and an ardent supporter of color. Clare Paint crafts quality paints for a designer-approved experience, and fellow boss Andrea approves!
Mitchell Black leads his namesake line of vivacious wallpaper and textiles. Black’s custom designed prints and patterns are unmatched. Andrea seeks to design the way with the same radiance and eclectic nature.
Big-league names next to little known designers are a reminder that anyone can be an influencer. As a Black designer, Andrea loves seeing BIPOC artists and business owners bringing their innovations to a majority white industry. This curated list includes only a few of the personalities that have inspired Andrea in her journey.
